Here's a nice one - nice number, too! As you may or may not be aware, this is a prototype of what the '73 plate was going to look like. The governor rejected it because the stars on the flag were, in fact, dots. There are too many of these floating around to call this a 'rare' plate, but still a curiosity.

This 1976-1980 baseplate remains one of the most sought-after regular issues ever produced, and is widely considered one of the nicest-looking passenger plates made (as opposed to the myriad of special-issue plates that are everywhere now), even decades after its release.

This is what a Commercial Trailer would have looked like during the same period. Not nearly as interesting, but these plates usually aren't. This one was unissued and undamaged, much unlike an issued plate would have been.

Tough to date this State of Alaska plate, as this type has had the same general appearance since 1970, but it appears to be a pre-1981 plate as the numbers, rather than the plate background, are reflective.

I bought this plate here in Maine, as part of a pair, for $5, a darned good deal. This plate now resides in the country of Norway as the result of a trade.

This is a truck plate, which adds a border, subtracts "The Last Frontier" slogan and the flag from the 1981-1998 passenger baseplate, and uses a 1234AB format as opposed to the passenger's ABC 123 format. These plates are no longer issued, as embossed ABC 123-format passenger plates are now issued to light trucks as well.
