This is a 1992 Alabama issue, displaying the obligatory "Heart of Dixie" legend at the top. This plate was issued from 1987 to 1992.

Another example of minimalist graphics on this 1993 plate, which was issued from 1992 to 1997.

This is one of the better-looking Apportioned plates you'll see, with an image of a tractor-trailer truck right on it.

That 'F' you see there denotes a Farm plate. Previous and later issues had the 'FARM' legend at the bottom of the plate. Kind of odd that this one doesn't.

These "Antique Vehicle" plates were eliminated in 1996 in favor of the current "Vintage Vehicle" plate. This plate is actually based on the design of the 1982 Alabama passenger plate, but with a different color scheme.

This attractive plate was introduced in 1996, and was replaced in the late 1990's by an even more attractive issue. Nice to see them getting the recognition they deserve.

This is what the 1997-2001 Alabama passenger issue looked like. A nice color fade makes this the nicest-looking Alabama baseplate yet, and the usual "Heart of Dixie" legend is present as always.

This plate was first introduced in January, 2002 and commemorates the famous song about Alabama. The "Heart of Dixie" slogan can barely be seen next to the word "Alabama" at the bottom of the plate. Kind of an interesting song to be commemorating on a license plate...kind of brings to mind the old tourist slogan 'Virginia is for lovers.' Click here for the lyrics.

Now, this is certainly a unique type. I'm working on getting the background story for its issuance, but for now, a picture is worth a thousand words.
