DC Government
Here's a Government plate from the 1980s. Kind of rough, obviously. I didn't want to touch it up in Photoshop and take away from the authenticity.
DC Annual Special Permit 1
DC Annual Special Permit 2
1992 DC Annual Special Permit
These permit plates are issued to heavy trucks and equipment not registered in the District. The first one is from the early 1970s, the second one is from 1978-79, and the last one is from 1992. Other colors used were green and blue, but current plates are flat, just like the passenger plates. The '65' in all three cases denotes a vehicle over 65,000 lbs.

Check out the upside down '8' on the 1992 plate.

2001 Inaugural 'PL8STER'
Too bad about the six-character limit. The only reason I got this set of plates - my first Inaugurals - was to put them on my truck (valid with stickers until 4/15/01) so I could be different.
Taxation flat
This 2000-present base was issued in embossed and flat variations. The flat version you see here uses the same type of woefully ugly font that you see on some other states' plates (Iowa and Wyoming come to mind).
