Great color scheme here, one reason this plate is in my collection. The other is the "PO Truck" type, which looks funny but just means "Privately Owned."

This plate was issued from late 1983 until late 1984, but was seen on the road until 1996, when Louisiana replaced all plates that had been issued for the previous twenty years or so.
Do they even still have the World's Fair? I haven't heard anything about it in years.

This plate was the successor to the World's Fair plate, and was issued from 1984 until 1990. This was obviously back in the day when states could get away with issuing all-embossed, non-graphic plates. Now, the plates themselves serve as marketing tools for their respective states as much as valid registration.

A welcome return to at least a small amount of graphics on this plate in 1990. The pelicans are a nod to older Louisiana plates that featured them.
Clever thing they did with the 'USA' there.

This is the "Lipstick" plate, which was introduced in 1993. Note how the script for 'Louisiana' is very similar to that of the current California issue. The "L" sticker denotes the state police troop area where the plate was issued, a practice that is no longer used.

A couple of years after the borderless "Lipstick" plate was introduced, an embossed border was added. That border remained with the Louisiana Purchase variant that followed. The state police troops stickers stopped being issued soon after the border was added to the plate.

This is the Louisiana Purchase plate first issued in January, 2002. It commemorates the 2003 centennial of the land transaction of the same name. If you're a little fuzzy on the details, the land in question is shaded on the map in the center of the plate.
