NE 97
This is a very nice example of the 1996-1998 Nebraska issue, itself a slightly revised version of the previous issue. Nebraska residents get to change plates every three years, and over the course of the Maine Lobster plates (1987-1999), Nebraska actually issued FIVE different baseplates. The '70' prefix denotes Dakota County.
NE 00
This is the 1999-2001 Nebraska passenger plate. The 59 at the left of the plate is the county code for Sarpy County, and it's stacked vertically to give more room for the actual serial number. Very nice-looking passenger plate.
NE 03
This one's even brighter than the scan shows. First issued in early 2002, this distinctive plate from Douglas County has done away with the usual county code -- on previous issues, this plate would have a '1' prefix -- which has some residents up in arms. To add insult to injury, the county stickers on these plates proved to be of poor quality and plates are now being issued without them altogether, a fact I would not have known if it weren't for the fount of knowledge that is Dave Nicholson's site (take Misc. link below to Links page).

One thing I will say is that I have a wall of current US plates in my garage, and this one really stands out from the other 50 (including DC, of course).
