Hemisfair
I love this classic white-on-black scheme. Brian Reback (ALPCA #4975) tells me that Hemisfair was an exposition for the Western Hemisphere that took place in San Antonio in 1968.
74 Farm
Lots of states have farms. Texas has BIG farms. Everything's big in Texas.
Disaster
Texas is one of those states that quietly issues lots of completely bizarre non-passenger plates, this being one of them. It had a legitimate purpose, like to allow Red Cross vehicles into declared disaster areas, but you can imagine it on the back of a Pinto or Pacer...that's much more fun.
State Judge
Texas is one of a handful of states that issue distinctive plates to its state judges.
Test Car
I would imagine that cars that displayed this plate attracted a lot of attention from cameras...this type is no longer issued. It was replaced by a Manufacturer tag with no 'Test Car' legend.
TX Bait Shrimp
TX Bay Shrimp
TX Gulf Shrimp
These plates had some attractive and different color schemes, and were issued yearly to boot. They were actually issued to boats that fish for shrimp, by the Parks and Wildlife Department of Texas. Thanks to Stuart Rohre for that information. I don't think these plates are issued anymore; not sure when their issuance stopped.
Conservation
Another interesting type...I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this was used by the Texas Department of Conservation. I have two Maine plates that are similar to this one.
TX Rental Trailer
Same format as most other non-passenger plates, but certainly one of a limited number of states that issue a specific Rental Trailer plate, instead of just a standard Trailer plate.
TX Truck
No Texas license plate page is complete without a fairly-worn 'truck' plate!
State Official
The 'State Offical' plate type is issued to the Governor, Lt. Governor, Speaker of House, Attorney General, Comptroller, State Treasurer, Land Office Commissioner, State Agricultural Commissioner, Secretary of State, Railroad Commission, Supreme Court, Criminal Court of Appeals, State Senators and State Representatives...only the number after the 'SO' prefix will tell you who's who. This particular plate would have been used by a state representative, based on the number.
Fertilizer Truck
Remember what I was saying about those bizarre non-passenger plates from Texas?
150 Years
This is a little different from the Sesquintennial plate that was issued in 1986...this '150 Years' plate, issued in 1995, celebrates 150 years of Texas statehood (as it states on the plate itself). The 1986 plate celebrates 150 years of of independence from Mexico (thanks again to Brian for that info).
2000 Texas
This is the current Texas plate, first issued in 2000. This may be the most attractive plate they've ever had (though that Hemisfair plate looks pretty cool). It's got a space shuttle, a guy on a horse, and some oil wells. Only Texas could pull that off on one plate and make it look good.
